Scot Gov publishes curriculum guidance on colonialism

Call it Out welcome the publication of guidance and a commitment to ensure that the Curriculum for Excellence takes account of Scottish / British colonialism, imperialism, slavery and other grave human rights violations . See the relevant publications here. The Irish in Scotland arrived here in huge numbers due to An Gorta Mor. In the following decades our ancestors were subjected to racialisation epitomised in the 1923 publication, Menace of the Irish Race to our Scottish Nation. Contemporary forms of anti Irish racism that occur within and outwith schools includes wrongful description of anti Irish racism as sectarianism; the questioning of the authenticity of Irish culture in Scotland and prevailing hate crimes and incidents that directly target our community. We look forward to working with key stakeholders like the Scottish Government and Education Scotland to ensure our communities history and experience is appropriately taught in Scottish schools beyond the ill informed and prejudiced content of sectarianism resources.
